Laurent's Cafe & Chocolate Bar

Decided to try out this cafe after dinner nearby. Very limited seating capacity. Rum and Raisin - not a single taste of rum. Too sweet for my liking Raspberry - acceptable Vienna hot chocolate - good Not sure why the quantity for single scoop for the 2 flavours differ by so much as seen in the pic. Pic taken before any eating. Unless the cakes and tarts are good, else can give the ice cream a miss to save some calories.

Hot Chocolate (SGD $9.70) @ Laurent Bernard Chocolatier / Laurent's Café & Chocolate Bar. . Named after its founder and reowned chocolate maestro, the Singapore branch of this French chain opened in September 2006. . Their rendition follows a house blend loved by their founder, a mix of dark and milk chocolate. It's medium thick and smooth with a frothy head, carrying medium chocolatey bitter sweet flavour. . Ingredients are sourced through close collaborations with farmers worldwide, resulting in exquisite gourmet quality. . Served in a traditional metal mug as a homage to kopitiam culture.

Excellent place for a decadent dessert after a light lunch or to satisfy your sweet cravings when you are out on a walk by the riverside. When one is in a Chocolate Bar one must eat chocolate...or not! We decided to have the Lemon Tart and a Raspberry dessert. The Lemon Tart was to die for, with its tangy flavour and wonderful textures. The Raspberry dessert was a little sour to the taste, but the hint of marzipan lifted it from the mundane to the outstanding!

We've been here thrice and it's always been a scrumptious experience every time. A place for decadent chocolate dessert flavors! Plus points for the welcoming staff. The malay girl, Shaz recognized me and knew i've been there before and gave good recommendations.. Amazing memory! Also had a chance to see Chef Laurent Bernard himself in action. Be warned though they're crazy packed and busy all the time. Expect long waiting time to get a seat.

Have now been here twice first time for cakes (forgot to review / photo oops) and this time for ice cream. Happy to report that they have a wide variety of both cakes and ice cream, what more could you ask for? Can reserve a table (useful for a date?) but we just walked in as a group of 4 and there was a table. Cakes were a while back so can’t remember exactly what we ordered but the black Forrest choice was especially good, moist and creamy with just right amount of berry tartness. (Slightly bias perhaps as that is my favourite flavour in general) Ice cream choice has great mix of classics and more unique combos. The mint was especially refreshing, with extra mintiness vs the average mint. Peanut butter flavour perfect offset to the mint although admittedly sounds strange..... tip is to ask the server about what flavours they have that day as on my experience the card doesn’t have all the available flavours. Cant remember was particularly expensive so value must be ok.

I cannot believe I took a cab down to this place (spent 20 dollars as it was raining) just because I read some good reviews and wanted a hot chocolate from here. IS THIS HOW YOU PACK A CAKE? I feel hurt and insulted. Service is bad, I wanted chocolate souffle to-go because the cafe was crowded and there was no space to sit. Was rudely told by the cashier that souffles aren't for takeaway. When I handed cash for payment, was rudely told off once again that "we are a cashless cafe" I paid 30 dollars for this cake (seen in picture) , a chocolate tart and hot chocolate. I wish I could get my entire refund(50$) cab included, for taking the effort to come all the way here, only to be served by rude staff and a cake/tart/hot chocolate that tasted spoilt. Thanks for ruining my weekend. EDIT: because i cannot reply to the owner who recently commented, i would like to highlight that i was not given a refund and instead in the email exchanges, i was blamed for not handling the box properly after leaving the shop. As you can probably see the owner's reply below, he is still pushing the blame onto me despite being at fault and refuses to take accountability. i did mention in my email exchanges to him, that a cab was already waiting once i got my order and i only walked a small distance to fetch my cab, during my commute the box was neatly placed on the seat to ensure stability, the tart was packed nicely, but it's the cake as shown in picture which i would like a refund for, however, despite my countless and relentless explanations, the owner refuses to compensate, i very well believe that he does not take accountability--and has no trust on his customers who are a source of his business. i will definitely not return and in my entire restaurant/cafe experience, never come across someone so adamant.
